CDR Jeremy Gates

A native of Springfield, Virginia, CDR Gates graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering. He has a master’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Project Management from the University of Maryland. CDR Gates’ first tour of duty was as an Assistant Public Works Officer at Navy Region Hawaii in Pearl Harbor, HI.

In 2003, he transferred to NAVFAC Hawaii, serving as a Construction Management Engineer and later as the Outlying Areas Team Leader. From 2005 to 2007 he was Service Contract Manager at Naval Support Activity Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territories. CDR Gates joined Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Forty in 2007 as the Air Detachment Officer in Charge, deploying to the Horn of Africa in August 2007 to February 2008. In August 2008 when he transferred to the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command in Little Creek, VA, where he served as a requirements analyst and later as the Force Facilities Officer. After attending Graduate School at the University of Maryland, CDR Gates reported to the OPNAV N46 Shore Readiness Division in the Pentagon in 2011. There he served as the Shore Strategy Action Officer and later as the Strategic Laydown Action Officer.

In 2013, he transferred to Naval Base Kitsap, Washington, where he was the director of the Facilities Engineering Acquisition Division providing construction and facilities support contracting for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Manchester Fuel Depot, and Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton. In 2016, he transferred to US Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, as the Facilities Officer managing the facilities sustainment, maintenance, and repair for MCASI’s $7B in infrastructure.

From 2019 to 2021 he was the Assistant Operations Officer for Future Operations at NAVFAC Atlantic in Norfolk, VA. In May 2021 he reported to NAVFAC Marianas as the Executive Officer. CDR Gates is a qualified Seabee Combat Warfare Officer. He is a Professional Engineer in the state of Hawaii, and is a member of the Acquisition Professional Community. His personal decorations include three Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), and various campaign and unit awards.
