Tank management focuses on preventing, controlling and abating pollution resulting from the storage of products in Aboveground or Underground Storage Tanks (AST / UST). The Japan Environmental Governing Standards Chapter 9 governs ASTs and Chapter 19 governs USTs. Additional requirements can be found in COMFLEACTINST 5090.5 and the installation Spill Response Plan.
To prevent releases to the environment, organizational AST users and managers are required to inspect their tanks monthly using the checklist and storm water drainage procedure provided. USTs are inspected, monitored and certified on a frequency determined by construction materials and appurtenances.
