Pollution Prevention
The concept of the Navy Pollution Prevention (P2) is to achieve environmental excellence through using P2 as a tool to support sustained compliance at the lowest life cycle cost.
The P2 objectives are:
– Reduce the life cycle cost of the Navy’s environmental quality program;
– Achieve sustained environmental compliance at Navy activities;
– Reduce generation of pollutants at Navy activities;
– Increase use of P2 alternatives to meet environmental compliance requirements.
To meet these objectives the Navy requires all installations to develop and implement a P2 plan to assess actions, materials, and processes to identify opportunities to minimize wastes, and reduce releases of pollutants, which will result in cost savings and reduced dependence on Hazardous Materials. The P2 plan is to be reviewed annually and revised at least every three years.
Fleet Activities Yokosuka’s P2 plan was completed in February 2012. Those organizations identified with P2 opportunities were given a copy of the plan and are working with the P2 Program Manager for implementation. To have an opportunity performed for your organization contact the P2 Program Manager. COMFLEACTINST 5090.16 provides further guidance. If you have further questions please contact the P2 Program Manager.
