Captain Johnson is the Executive officer of Naval Facilities Enginering Systems Command, Far East. A native of Norfolk, Virginia, he graduated from The University of Virginia in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and commissioned an ensign through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program. He holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington in 2011. Johnson completed Joint Professional Military Education Level I in 2016.
Johnson’s operational tours include communications officer, USS Howard (DDG-83); training officer, USS Bunker Hill (CG-52); Civil Affairs and Facilities Officer, Seal Team ONE (OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM Individual Augment), Fallujah, Iraq and training officer, Amphibious Construction Battalion 2.
His facilities and staff tours include Assistant Regional Engineer, Navy Region Hawaii, Facilities Engineering & Acquisition Director Naval Facilities Engineering Command Hawaii, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Deputy Plans/Training Officer, Naval Expeditionary Combat Command Pacific, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Sustainment, Restoration, Modernization and Expeditionary Readiness Engineer with Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Virginia; Facilities, Engineering and Acquisition Director, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington; Assistant Public Works Officer, Naval Base Coronado, California.
Prior to reporting to NAVFAC FE, he served as Vice Commander, NAVFAC PACIFIC.
Johnson is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Arizona, a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps and qualified as a Seabee Combat Warfare, Surface Warfare and Fleet Marine Force officer. His personal awards include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy Commendation Medal (five awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal (three awards).
