Spill Prevention and Response

The PWD Yokosuka Environmental Division Spill Prevention and Response Program provides guidance and assistance in Oil and Hazardous Substance (OHS) spill related issues. In addition to responding to spills, the spill prevention and response team is also responsible for educating and training persons on matters related to small spill response and spill prevention. Port Operations is responsible for spill response on the water and the CNFJ Fire Department is responsible for spill response on land. PWD Environmental provides cleanup and waste management support.

The Environmental Division classifies a spill as a release of any oil or hazardous substance including, but not limited to, petroleum, oil, lubricants, and chemicals. Only those persons trained and capable of handling a spill should do so.

Contact 911 for all spills that cannot be handled by personnel on-site. For those properly trained and skilled in the handling of such spills, clean up measures may be taken; however, the PWD Yokosuka Spill Response Manager must be contacted immediately upon doing so.

Report spills to PWD Yokosuka's Environmental Office: DSN 243-5777 or 080-5926-4121 (24 hours). Applicable spill incidents will be investigated, recorded, filed, surveyed, and reported, if necessary, for trends to prevent future occurrences.
