The PWD Yokosuka Environmental Division Hazardous Waste Program processes and prepares more than two million pounds of hazardous waste annually. The hazardous waste team efficiently serves Yokosuka Main Base and its seven outlying installations in the collection, segregation, storage, packaging, labeling and preparation of various hazardous wastes such as lead acid batteries, rechargeable and non-rechargeable dry cell batteries, propane tanks, polychlorinated biphenyls, asbestos, fluorescent bulbs, paint, antifreeze, engine oil, filters, household chemical products and pesticides.
The hazardous waste team is committed to pollution prevention through source reduction, recycling, and/or proper disposal of all collected hazardous wastes. Improper disposal of hazardous waste, such as pouring down drains, leaving on the side of the road, or discarding with regular trash, is strictly prohibited.
