01 May 2015

YOKOSUKA, Japan— Naval Facilities Engineering Command Far East delivered 16 three and four-bedroom townhouse units, to complete a military housing project at Naval Air Facilities Atsugi, Japan May 1.

In total, NAVFAC Far East's Public Works Department Atsugi has revitalized 36 townhouse units since work on this project began in July 2014.

"We are happy to complete this important housing project for NAF Atsugi," said  Jose Arinaza, PWD Atsugi construction management engineer. "These improved housing units will contribute to the quality of life for warfighters and their families here."

Revitalization efforts have included renovation of kitchen, laundry areas and bathrooms, replacement of all windows, doors, floor coverings and trim, and installation of new HVAC and fire sprinkler systems. Exterior repairs included site improvements, patios, wood fences and gates and concrete dikes.

The housing units, originally built in 1991, will be more energy and water efficient. They've been equipped with LED lights, double pane windows, improved insulation and low flow shower and sink faucets.

The project also included repair of the mechanical room supplying hot water to four buildings.

An $11.4 million contract was awarded to Nihon MECCS Co. LTD on Dec. 2, 2013 for the revitalization efforts, managed by PWD Atsugi.
